Lawyerist Lab

How do you know if Lawyerist Lab is a good fit for you?

You Are Ready to Innovate

You recognize that the practice of law is changing, fast.

You know your clients and potential clients have more options, including non-lawyer options. They also have more information—about the law, the process, and the cost. Disruption in other sectors (online shopping, video streaming, and ride sharing to name just a few) means clients’ expectations about working with lawyers are changing, too.

Most lawyers are content to bury their head in the sand and continue with business as usual. They persist with hourly billing and outdated law firm business models. They may dabble in some new ideas, but they aren’t committed to fundamentally changing the way they serve their clients.

If you’re not committed to reimagining your law practice, Lab is not your place. But if you see opportunity on the horizon, as we do, it is probably the perfect place for you. If you want to design a client-centered law firm, build a business with systems and processes that leverage technology, and deliver higher quality legal services faster and for less money, you’re probably in the right place. If you’re ready to explore alternative marketing and you want to use data to manage your firm, not your intuition, you are probably in the right place. And if you want to be an innovator and entrepreneur and create new demand in untapped markets and dominate them, you are probably in the right place.

In short, if you’re interested in designing a law firm for the future, you are probably in the right place. When you join Lawyerist Lab, we will help you and hold you accountable as you contemplate your highest priorities, set ambitious goals, and achieve them.

You are Ready to Work

Lawyerist Lab is about getting results. Results require work.

Let’s face it, there is a ton of free content out there. You can read business books, blogs, and white papers. You can attend CLEs across the land. And you can listen to countless dozens of podcasts if you just want to hear new ideas or hear about what others are doing in their businesses. Lab is for getting work done—week in and week out—to implement sustainable, transformative changes that will help you innovate and change your business for the good.

We know that’s intimidating. We know exactly what it is like to manage a growing law practice while simultaneously practicing law (our program was designed by former leaders of small, successful law firms). But you have to make time to tend to your business if you want to grow it.

To join Lab, you will commit to spending 1–2 hours a week (or 1 day a month) to implement the ideas you learn in Lab into your practice. Real success demands a real commitment to do the work.

You are Ready for a Lawyer Coach and Training

Some people go to the gym each day and push themselves to their limit without prompting. Others need an accountability partner or personal trainer.

In Lab, you are not alone. As your personal business trainer, our team keeps you on task and helps you through the process. You’ll start with quarterly strategy sessions with your business coach. We’ll help you create a plan for your practice. Then, we’ll be there to answer questions and provide support. Plus, you’ll meet experts in many different fields and hear the latest actionable best practices to help you innovate.

You Benefit from Community

Most importantly, you will be part of our Lawyerist community. This community is pretty damn special because of the amazing people populating it.

Our community is filled with givers. They give their time, knowledge, and support to everyone in the community because they care about one another and about making the profession better.

To be part of our community, you are expected to participate and add value. Each Lab member is carefully paired with a small group that meets monthly for a mastermind session. For the group to work, you have to show up. You have to bring your best. Everyone has something special to offer. In exchange, you’ll get the best our community has to offer (and that’s a lot). The Lab community will support you and celebrate your successes all along the way.

Lawyerist Lab is Different

Lawyerist Lab includes:

  • Coaching. You’ll meet with a business coach at least every 90 days to help you create and implement a strategic plan specifically designed for your firm. If you get stuck along the way, our team will be there to help you keep moving and guide you through what the next step looks like for you!
  • Content and implementation tools. You’ll have access to the Lawyerist Lab online library, which is constantly growing and improving. You’ll have access to bite-sized videos, templates, and worksheets designed to help you quickly digest content and implement ideas into your practice.
  • Accountability/support. Lab team members and other community members hold you accountable, provide feedback, and answer questions in a vibrant online discussion group.
  • Monthly mastermind calls. Each Lab participant is grouped into a carefully-curated small group and meets monthly for facilitated mastermind calls.
  • Expert workshops. Hear from and interact with leading experts in law practice management topics through online workshops.
  • Lawyerist LabCon. Each participant is invited to our amazing in-person event modeled on the ever-popular TBD Law (conference price to be paid separately).
  • Affinity partnership program. As a Lab member, you’ll enjoy discounts with hand-picked program partners.

Lawyerist Lab requires a six month commitment and has two investment options based on the level of personal support you need, $499 and $799. Have questions?

Lawyerist Coaching: Find the Laser Focus You Need

I’m the founder and CEO of a 2-person law firm. We consider ourselves mission-based and innovative, with big scaling goals. I joined Lab a year ago for two reasons: to find a community of like-minded lawyers, and to find a new Mastermind group after my prior group disbanded. My new Mastermind group is amazing, with incredibly talented and highly accomplished entrepreneurs who are eager to share their knowledge, insights, successes, and missteps. The weekly Lab Workshops topics are relevant and well worth the time commitment, and the vast resources offered to Lab members provide strategic advice on virtually every topic relevant to building a thriving law practice. But to my immense delight, I recently learned that one of the best-kept secrets in Lab is Stephanie Everett and her one-on-one business coaching. Do not miss this opportunity! Whether you need to be talked off that cliff or you need to jumpstart a challenging project or resolve a perplexing issue, Stephanie will help you find the laser focus you need. Her calm, precise advice and her creative problem solving will get you back on track. Although my most successful friends have used a business coach for years, I resisted, as I could not imagine how I could work with a coach. I only wish someone had pushed me to do this when I first started my business. Stephanie is the gold standard. Try a coaching session. You won’t regret it.

    Lab helps unlock real advancements

I’ve been a member of Lab for over a year now. I have not only learned tremendous amounts and made friends with like-minded colleagues, I have thought about many aspects of my practice in new ways. This thinking has “unlocked” repeated benefits, like raising fees, organizing my time better, focusing my marketing, trying ‘product’ offerings, tackling obstacles, and much more. Stephanie is fantastic coach and a joy to work with. Aaron and Sam and the entire Laywerist team undoubtedly have thought more about the future of practice for small innovative law firms than anyone else anywhere. All these benefits increase exponentially at LabCon where the in-person energy from this community of lawyers engaged in thinking outside the box about managing and growing their practices is unlike any other conference I’ve ever experienced (and in 20 years of practice, that is a lot of conferences). If you are open to creatively examine and improve your practice, I can’t recommend Lab and LabCon enough.

*** Full disclosure – I have represented Lawyerist at the USPTO in registering and protecting trademarks. This review, however, wasentirely unsolicited and entirely my own.

    Lab Review

I am new to Lab this year, but I’d been an Insider for a long time. It’s much more intense but also has a LOT more resources at your fingertips. I find I get out what I put in, in terms of making changes, but the goal-setting and accountability with the Lawyerist team keep me on track. Some weeks it’s hard for me to make the various meetings, but most are recorded and I always make time for the mastermind group. I know a Labster personally and professionally, and her recommendation carried a lot of weight with me in deciding to join.

What pushed me over the edge into joining Lab was that I launched a new firm with a partner, and I went from solo with a contract paralegal to two attorneys and four 1099 employees with the goal of growing to an associate within a year. The business planning side of this group is AMAZING. I have an undergrad in business, and this is better than 4 years of that degree combined. It’s tailored to the BUSINESS OF LAW and is just a great network for anyone running their own practice. I didn’t think I would get all that much out of it myself other than from an HR perspective but I was dead wrong. I didn’t have that many questions (or so I thought), but the questions that everyone else is asking sparks creativity in me that has made massive improvements to the way we do things.

I love this group, and cannot recommend it enough. I’m so excited to go to Labcon, too, especially because Sam gave us a taste of what the training will be like by teaching at our recent Colorado Solo Small Firm Institute. Never had anything like it!

    Amazingly Surprised

I had not idea what exactly I was getting myself into when I joined Lab. I knew I needed a tribe, that I wanted to work more on my business and grow my firm and this sounded good, but I had no idea how amazing it would be. From the moment I got signed in and started working on the lab items, I knew this was exactly what I was missing. And when I attended LabCon, I was just blown away by the group of lawyers who were all innovating the law in their own way. It’s like everyone in this community knows that our system needs to be revamped and there is no shortage of ideas to get us there.

Everyone you meet in the program is engaging, helpful, and is excited about what they do – just like me. I could not have found a better community and resource if I had to create it myself. Thank you!

    Lab is an amazing value

I have been working with Lawyerist Lab for nearly a year now. What is exciting is to see is a transformation made up of small, consistent, incremental changes that you put in place over the course of a year. Each small individual step, while not remarkable itself can cause some powerful changes over the course of year. You will hear, see and do things differently if you stick with the program over the long term.

Here are some random thoughts I have in no particular order:

Value. Lab is really a great value relative to other reasonably similar things in the market place.

For me, the most valuable item in Lab is the bit sized, focused education and action plans that you are given to execute. They are explained well, broken into small pieces, and doable in a weeks’ time. Follow them every week over the course of an entire year and I think you’ll see big improvements.

I would encourage working each of the learning points even if you think you are already amazing at something. Some of the best learning experiences we had were in modules that we didn’t expect.

I think 2 hours per week is the minimum. You are free to work at your own pace but know that you get out what you put into it.

There is some accountability in the program but let’s be honest, nobody is going to make you do anything. You have to be disciplined and committed to the program or you’ll be wasting money.

My experience with the Mastermind groups was so-so. I know the format is changing and it sounds like a positive change.

If you engage in the community, you can find valuable resources. Like accountability, it is only useful if you are committed to engaging in it. Wish more people were actively engaged in a regular basis. I understand the Facebook group is very active, but that isn’t directly related to Lab.

Stephanie Everett who runs the program is fantastic! She is genuine and wants you to succeed.

LabCon is awesome! I can’t say enough good things about it.

    Can I give six stars??

I practiced about 8 years at big firms before leaving to start my own practice. I felt the business model of the legal industry in general was outdated and I knew there was a better way. At the time I had no clients of my own and no real idea of what I was doing other than a general vision of what I wanted my firm to be.

I joined Lawyerist Lab about two and a half years after starting my firm and I wish I had found them sooner! The Lab program and the amazing team at Lawyerist have helped in all aspects of my business, like dealing with client acquisition, the client experience, helping me articulate the values, mission and goals for the firm, developing processes and procedures, hiring and managing the right people, and the list goes on and on.

There are so many resources – the Lab course content, the monthly video calls with your mastermind group, expert clinics, access to the Lawyerist team and to the Lab community, just to name a few. The team genuinely cares about the Lab community and wants you to succeed. Check out some of the free resources like the Lawyerist podcast, blog posts on the website, Lawyerist Lens on YouTube, or join the Facebook insiders group if you want some examples.

Even though there is so much great content and so many great resources in the Lab program, how much you get out of Lab is really up to you. Lab is designed to help you develop and carry out your own vision for your practice instead of trying to put everyone into a cookie cutter mold. That also means it’s great no matter what your practice area and whether you practice on your own or have a firm with more people.

I just can’t say enough good things about Lab and everyone at Lawyerist!

    Best Decision Ever

I joined Lawyerist Lab through a recommendation of Stephanie Everett. She has served as a go to person in my practice and professional career. Lawyerist Lab provides invaluable information for running an effective practice.

I like that everything is broken down in a way that makes the impossible possible. As lawyers we are mostly behind when it comes to innovation but through Lawyerist Lab innovation is not only possible but highly encouraged.

The best part of Lab is the community. The people going through the same struggles and also there to celebrate the victories can not be measured. The community is the best resource for anyone running a practice. I am so glad I joined.
