In order for our gadgets to become sentient and take over the world, they must first learn to understand us. The Nexus One is poised to lead the way, with voice recognition built into nearly everything.

Sending an e-mail by talking to your phone may seem somewhat backwards, at first, but I first realized how wonderful this is when I was trying to juggle a fussy baby and send an e-mail to Randall the other day. Instead of fumbling over the onscreen keyboard, I just hit the microphone and spoke my message clearly. Since then, I use the voice recognition all the time.

That is a nice feature. I do not know what email that was, but I have not noticed any strange words, other than a couple “goo-goos.”

The iPhone has voice dial, and can operate the iPod, but there is no built-in application to allow email dictation. There are a few apps, but none of them got very good reviews.
