Law Firm Exit Strategy

This page on law firm exit strategies—including buying a firm, selling a firm, and retirement succession planning—is scheduled for a complete rewrite in 2020 to more directly align with the strategies in our new bestselling book The Small Firm Roadmap and the coaching we offer in the Lawyerist Lab.

Most small law firms are started without any thinking about how they will end. As the legal profession ages and as law firm business models develop, we foresee a much more opportunity for small law firms to build strategies around buying and selling law practices and more deliberate planning for retirement and succession planning.

We do a lot of thinking about law firm exit strategies and buying and selling firms, in our Lawyers Lab program.

We’re in the process of building out this page, but in the meantime, we encourage you to learn more about our thinking about exit planning, succession planning, and buying and selling firms outlined in the Small Firm Roadmap. You can download the first chapter here.
