Steve Jobs passed away yesterday. His death at 56 is a tragedy on many levels–for his family and friends, for the worlds of technology and business, and more. But while he lived and led Apple, he was a singular model of the best of business. He had a vision for technology, entertainment, and design, and was uncompromising in pursuit of that vision. And he and his company succeeded as no other CEO and company in history has succeeded.

There is a lesson for lawyers in Steve Jobs’s success in business. We must also be uncompromising in service of our clients—our shared vision as lawyers. How we do that is up to us, but at the end of the day—at the end of our lives—we must be able to look back and be proud of our work. Steve Jobs could be proud of his work. Are you?
