If I could go back, I'd join sooner

I’ve been a member of How to Manage a Small Law Firm for 10 months. When I joined, I was absolutely lost. I worked all the time, but didn’t see the results I felt I should be seeing. I had no clue where my business was going nor where it had been. I joined because I had witnessed the success of a couple of colleagues firsthand, and no matter what it was, I wanted what they were having.

I now have a plan that will double the size of my firm by the end of this calendar year. I am part of a community of professionals that is instrumental to my success. I have a strong knowledge of all the key metrics that make a law firm successful, and more importantly, where my own firm stands in terms of those key metrics and how to take the proper steps to ensure success.

If you’re someone who can take all your excuses and…well…leave them at the door, and you are open, coachable and want to take your business to the next level and are willing to put in the work, then you will find value in becoming a member of this community. As for me, my only regret is not joining sooner.

Exactly the program I needed to teach me how to run my law firm

I started my law firm in December 2014 with quite a bit of legal experience and absolutely no experience running a business. While I floated along without many negative consequences caused by my complete incompetence in running my firm and my firm had relatively high gross revenues for almost 3 1/2 years, that all changed in May 2018 when I began suffering from a severe neck injury. I missed almost 6 months of work due to complex surgery and recovery time and my employees had no systems in place or instructions on how to handle things in my absence. As a result, my revenue dropped precipitously and I entered into a very severe cash crunch that put my firm in danger of failing. At this time, while doing random internet searches, I came across How to Manage’s website. The programs and coaching they offered seemed like exactly what I needed to turn my firm around. I went to my first Live Quarterly Meeting in October 2018 and I was sold, mainly by hearing the about the successes many attorneys achieved through the program. I now have a CEO, COO, and CFO assigned to me–all of whom give me priceless advice on how to improve my law firm and increase my gross revenues. Some of the work assigned to me is painful to do and outside my comfort zone, but I shoulder through it and in the end I learn how necessary that work was. I still have a long way to go to improve my firm, but I am extremely confident How to Manage will help me become a huge success. I cannot recommend the program highly enough.

Best decision I ever made for my family

I have been a member with How to Manage a Small Law Firm for over four years now. When I joined, I had been a solo practicing attorney for about seven years. I was at my wits end and was ready to give up the practice of law. I joined with the hopes that somebody might be able to help me manage and grow firm. It’s not that I wasn’t experiencing some success already, but my law practice was not giving me the life that I had expected for my family.

In the last four years since joining, my firm has grown about 400% in top line revenue and about 500% in bottom line net income. There is no way I could have done this on my own efforts. We just don’t learn the stuff in law school.

If you are the kind of lawyer who is ready to grow your firm and leave all your excuses at the door, then this may be a good organization for you. But if you already know all the answers, then you probably wouldn’t fit in and you probably wouldn’t find much help here.

Outstanding Support for Small Law Firms

I have been a member of How to Manage a Small Law Firm for one year and have received outstanding value. All of the individuals with whom I have worked exemplify the highest ideals of a professional. They deeply care about my success as well as that of the other members. They are highly knowledgeable and structured in their approach. There is plenty of concrete guidance, accountability and follow-through. However, there are no gimmicks or silver bullets here. Rather, they preach the law of cause and effect and encourage their members to take their businesses seriously. Associating with this organization has not only made me a better businessman, but has made me a more effective and helpful lawyer for my clients.

    Highly Recommended

You will get out of it what you put into it. HTM will provide you the tools to build your law practice (or any other business) to a multi-million dollar business. I was a partner in a $3MM law firm before leaving that practice and starting a new one. I have learned so much about how to run a law firm and can only look back and wonder how much more successful my previous firm would have been had we implemented just some of the things that I learned.

    Excellent Organization

I’d agree How to Manage isn’t for everyone, but I believe most law firms (especially small to medium ones) will achieve tremendous personal and professional growth by joining the HTM program. I’ve owned my own firm for 20 years, and have been involved with HTM for 2. During that time, I’ve learned a tremendous amount about how to hire, oversee and incentivize staff, how to monitor metrics, increase efficiency & profitability, and more. Their unique fractional share advisor program (CFO / COO / CEO) is nothing short of brilliant.

    Could use improvement

How to Manage is not for everyone. If you are having success on your own and express to them that their principles do not work for your firm… you will politely be informed that you are some how wholly flawed and your own terror is preventing success. The contract is extremely unilateral and is for 18 months. The recruiting tactics are high pressure. You are essentially told if you don’t care enough to make the investment with them then you do not care about making money or being a firm owner. If I could leave 0 stars I certainly would.

I tried to resolve all grievances with them without any success.
