Martindale-Hubbell is a lawyer rating service that provides both peer and client reviews. It is one of the oldest and most recognized rating services, well predating the internet era. Martindale-Hubbell also has a lawyer directory and provides additional marketing services.
Client reviews. Though it is famous for peer reviews of lawyers, Martindale-Hubbell recently launched client reviews, and those are displayed prominently in the lawyer directory. You can send clients to your profile and tell them to submit a client review there. The review is survey-driven. Your clients will be asked to answer whether they would recommend your services and provide a scaled score (from 1 to 5) on questions about your communication abilities, your responsiveness, the quality of your services, and the value for their money. They can also provide additional written feedback. You don’t have to display client reviews, but if you choose to show them, you can’t pick and choose which ones you’d like to have displayed.
Cross-platform display. A Martindale-Hubbell profile is also displayed on Nolo, which consumers use to view legal articles, and Lawyers.com, a large legal directory.
Additional marketing tools. Martindale-Hubbell offers a number of extra services to enhance your directory and web presence, including customizing your professional profile with details like call tracking numbers and links to videos and your social media accounts. They also have a website-building package and lead generation services.
Pricing is available directly from Martindale-Hubbell. You do not need to be a Martindale.com subscriber to be listed, but your firm name will only show up in searches for the firm name itself, rather than in an area of practice or location search.
Who Martindale-Hubbell is For
Martindale-Hubbell’s lawyer directory is rating-heavy. Both the peer and client reviews are prominently featured, and large law firms are included. This means that a solo or small firm without a lot of ability to quickly garner peer and client reviews may get lost in the shuffle. On the other hand, relatively new lawyers may like to take advantage of the fact that a listing on Martindale-Hubbell is also a listing on Lawyers.com and Nolo.com, which significantly extends the directory reach.
