In this week’s edition of How Lawyers Work, we talked to Inti Martínez-Alemán. Inti was an attorney in his native Honduras before moving to the United States. Inti serves the Latino population in civil and business law matters under low-bono fee arrangements as the founding attorney of Ceiba Fôrte Law Firm, PLLC.
What apps or tools are essential to your daily workflow?
Is this where I’m supposed to list nifty apps that only cool geeks know about?!
All I can say is that I couldn’t work well without the G Suite. Google Voice works marvels, but I’m looking for another solution with better privacy (suggestions welcome!). My practice management is through CosmoLex. I do my billing and bookkeeping with Quickbooks. Since I run a paperless office, my ScanSnap is my BFF. Its CardMinder app allows me to scan all those pesky business cards and automatically import the extracted data to my contacts. When I’m on the go, I use ScanBot to create PDFs from images I capture with my phone. IPVanish is my preferred VPN when I’m working off site. For hardware, I’m a Mac boy.
What does your workspace look like?
Because I opened my firm six months ago through the Collaborative Community Law Initiative, my office space is pretty traditional. L-shaped desk, comfy chair, ScanSnap at my fingertips, laser printer within reach, and two conference rooms to accommodate large groups. That said, I am pretty ambulatory, so you will find me working at coffee shops, on the light rail train, or at home.
How do you keep track of your calendars/deadlines?
Google Calendar with sufficient deadline reminders that sync with my Apple Calendar.
What’s your coffee service setup? (Other beverages are fine, of course, but you should really be serving coffee!)
None. Water is my power source!
What is one thing that you listen to/read/watch that everyone should?
The EntreLeadership podcasts are extremely good for best business practices. BONUS: Speeches or messages from the Global Leadership Summit are essential for annually updating me on the latest of world trends and affairs in the marketplace.
What’s your favorite local place to network or work solo?
What are three things you do without fail every day?
- Catch up on the phone with a family member or two.
- Drink a gallon of water.
- Read the Bible and pray to God.
