I’ve been thinking a lot about those helicopters that fall perennially from the maple trees in my yard. There are so many of them. Each one is so fun to watch as it falls, and it is kindof exciting to see them nestle into all the little nooks and crannies in our yard. They dig in, get their roots wet, and take a run at it. Then I pluck them, cut them down, or otherwise ruin their dreams. Lawyers are kindof like that. (Not the part about me plucking them, cutting them down, or ruining their dreams, of course, but you know where I’m going with this). Brand new lawyers drift down into their first law jobs and nestle in to get their roots wet to take a run at it. Sometimes (spoiler alert: rarely) they find themselves in the perfect bed to sprout and grow into a glorious and towering specimen. That journey for lawyers is their professional development journey, and you can read more about professional development on Lawyerist right here.
