Alexis-Martin-NeelyI am so thrilled to be the newest contributing member to the Lawyerist community!

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Alexis Martin Neely and the majority of my posts here will focus on law practice management, legal marketing, and business development in a web 2.0 world.

It is my absolute passion to help stuck, burnt-out and frustrated attorneys shift their mindsets and transform their life-sucking practices into the six- and seven-figure businesses they’ve always dreamed of, all built on a new business model that I adapted from successful entrepreneurs outside the legal industry and applied to build my own seven-figure law business in just three years.

What that means is that all of the strategies, advice and resources I offer are coming to you tested and proven.

Before starting my own firm, I graduated first in my class from Georgetown University Law Center, clerked for a year on the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and finally began my career at one of the best law firms in the United States: Munger, Tolles & Olson (MTO).

I chose MTO primarily because it had been started by Charlie Munger, Warren Buffett’s trusted advisor and personal lawyer. I went to law school to be just this kind of a lawyer and was disappointed to discover the practice of law simply isn’t like that anymore.

Today, there is very little relationship in the attorney-client relationship. It’s all transaction, hourly billings, and documents. Clients are scared of us and as a result, people are making bad decisions for their families and small businesses because they simply don’t and won’t call us until it’s too late.

I knew there had to be a better way.

So after only three years, I left MTO and started my own solo firm where I worked with families and small business owners and learned first-hand the struggles and challenges inherent in solo and small firm practice.  I know what it’s like to be stuck on the cash-flow rollercoaster and marketing merry-go-round.  I know what it’s like to lose sleep worried whether you can make payroll or how you’ll get everything done.  I know what it’s like to book a full day of appointments only to have every prospect cancel last minute.

I wanted a law firm that I could count on, that my clients would love, and that would give me the freedom and flexibility to be a great mom to my kids.  Despite what everyone said, I knew it was possible. So I set out to study entrepreneurs in all different industries and apply what I learned in my own business. I’m thrilled to report that not only did I fix the broken business model, I grew my firm to a seven-figure business in three short years by doing so.

I’ve since gone on to build two other seven-figure businesses and start a Law Business Revolution since retiring from private practice and selling my law firm last year.

In addition to running my businesses, I’m also a regular TV legal expert and commentator for CNBC, Fox News Channel and I’ve been featured on other shows such as the Today Show, Good Morning America and the O’Reilly Factor for revolutionizing the way attorneys treat and interact with their clients.

I am so excited to be interacting with each and every one of you here and look forward to helping you build your law firm into a business that gives you quality time with your family, financial freedom and peace of mind knowing you are building a business you can one day sell—not work at until the day you die.

And of course, you can also find me on Twitter, on my Facebook fan page, or join the Law Business Revolution where you can download over $22,500 worth of practice building gifts for lawyers, free—no strings attached.
