The duel between LexisNexis and Westlaw is about to become a three-way battle—Bloomberg Law rolls out later this month.
Bloomberg Law’s claim to fame is integrating real-time news and business bulletins with legal content. The service also has comparable features to Westlaw and LexisNexis—case law search, citation check, headnotes, etc. Whether or not Bloomberg Law brings anything new to the table, however, is a matter of debate.
One reviewer felt the interface was nothing special and overall the new service does not do anything Westlaw and LexisNexis cannot currently do. On the other hand, another reviewer raved the interface is “slick and well designed.”
Even if Bloomberg Law brings nothing else to the party, a more user-friendly interface is a welcome addition. LexisNexis and Westlaw both have their respective advantages, but neither interface is particularly intuitive or approachable. At the very least, the introduction of Bloomberg Law should force LexisNexis and Westlaw to make their products even better.
