The one major issue—backups to prevent data loss—can be easily addressed by using a desktop e-mail application.
A more minor issue is Gmail’s increasingly crowded interface. If you find yourself distracted by the clutter, try Gmail Minimalist.
Gmail Minimalist will clean up the interface
Minimalist is a free extension that lets you customize every aspect of your Gmail interface. If you do not want to see the Gmail logo—remove it. Don’t like having a Google search bar at the top of your screen? Make it go away.
What if you don’t know the names of all the elements you want to remove? Minimalist makes it easy by showing a pop up picture of every customizable element. And I mean every element. The bad news is that you cannot remove ads.
For now, Minimalist is only available for the Chrome and Firefox browsers. Google is adding lots of other neat extensions that only work with Chrome, so this should give you another reason to stop using Internet Explorer.
This is a must have for Gmail users
Frankly, there is too much junk on the default Gmail interface. Even if you do not care about the aesthetics, all that junk can lead to distractions. You probably do not care how much of your Gmail storage space you are using—so why get distracted by looking at it?
In today’s age of constant multitasking, the more stuff on your screen, the more likely you are to get distracted. In addition, lawyers spend lots of time staring at their inbox, so why not take ten minutes to make things look nicer?
Minimalist will not only make your screen prettier, it might also help you stay on task, and that is always a good thing.
