It’s nearly the end of December and feels like a great time to reflect on the past year here at Lawyerist. 2014 has been an interesting year for us and we’re really grateful to our readers, writers, and advertisers for keeping our project going.
So, let’s start with a big THANK YOU!
We really appreciate that you take the time to visit Lawyerist. We aspire to publish things that are valuable to you in growing your practice. We know we’re not perfect (and sometimes we think a little non-law-practice levity is fun, too), but we hope you find our site useful.
For those of you curious about how things are going at Lawyerist, here’s a little review of 2014.
Law Practice Ideas
We published 325 posts on Lawyerist in 2014 on topics ranging from legal marketing, to law office technology, to the changing face of law school, to style advice, and humor.
Here were our most popular posts of the year.
Over 300 posts couldn’t come from Sam alone. In addition to a great team of existing writers, we added 11 new writers in 2014. We are continually blown away to be a part of such an impressive group of lawyers and industry experts from around the country. (Most of them are a lot of fun to work with, too!)
You, Our Readers
Thanks to you, Lawyerist continues to grow.
In 2014, we had over 3.5 million page views from over 1.1 million visitors. While not everyone who visits Lawyerist is a lawyer (some just want to read our tech reviews), it’s humbling to see that a large percentage of the solo and small firm community visit our site.
Visitors to Lawyerist come from all over the world, with multiple visitors this year from each of over 225 countries and territories. That’s more than the 193 member states of the UN.
Almost 40% of you read Lawyerist from tablets and smartphones — what a tech-savvy bunch you are!
Here are some other fun facts and changes from the past year.
In 2014, we sent over 1.8 million email newsletters (if this were the 1990s, that would have been a lot of paper and postage)!
This summer, after three years under our ownership, we sold the legal humor site Bitter Lawyer to Lawyerist writer Lisa Needham and her business partner Joline Zepcevski. In the few months they’ve owned it, they have done a great job reviving its unique voice in the legal blog world.
At about the same time, Greg Luce left the Lawyerist team to pursue other projects after three years as a partner in the company.
In September, we launched a new section of the site called “Notes” where we publish more frequent, shorter posts than the more-in-depth “Articles” that remain the focus of Lawyerist.
All in all, it was a big year of change for us.
As 2014 wraps up, we are looking forward to the coming year.
As you may have heard, we will be launching the Lawyerist Podcast in January where our first guest will be Alan Dershowitz. Our new podcast will feature weekly interviews and audience questions and we hope you’ll subscribe and check it out.
In addition to the podcast, we expect to welcome a few more new writers at the beginning of the year.
In January, we will also be launching formal partnerships with Carolyn Elefant’s MyShingle and Bob Ambrogi’s LawSites, two of the best law blogs, to help Bob and Carolyn grow their sites. We’ve been friends with both of them for years and we’re excited to get to work even more closely together.
We look forward to seeing all of you on Lawyerist (or even in person) in 2015!
