I am excited to be writing for Lawyerist. I have been in private practice for 26 years, the past 18 of which have been as a successful solo practitioner. I was committed to work-life balance long before it was in vogue. I began practicing law part-time as soon our oldest daughter was born. I now work full-time at a virtual office which still permits that coveted balance.
What I hope to bring to Lawyerist is some of the practical lawyering knowledge I have gained over the past 26 years. I currently practice primarily in civil litigation in multiple areas of law including contracts, business, real estate, family and employment. I am a former prosecutor and criminal defense attorney. I am an adjunct faculty member in the Maynard Pirsig Moot Court Program at the University of Minnesota Law School. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a degree in economics and received my JD from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1984. I serve on the council for the General Practice, Solo-Small Firm Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association. I have been active in leadership roles for many nonprofit organizations for the past 25 years.
In addition to my private practice, I have had speaking engagements regarding contract and co-counsel relationships, as well as marketing and networking. I would love the opportunity to speak in states other than Minnesota, particularly in the winter!
