Using the Fujitsu ScanSnap s1500M with a Mac is a beautiful thing in my paperless law office.
Arguably, like everything else, the scanner works better on a Mac than a PC (Mac fanboy joke). Favoritism aside, the S1500M works great with a Mac.
The S1500M is visually more appealing than the ScanSnap S1500 scanner. With a sleek pearl color and nifty blue light, the scanner would fit in seamlessly on the bridge of the USS Enterprise of Star Trek fame. Whether you use a Mac or a PC, the scanner will look nice on your desk.
The ScanSnap works like a dream on all types of documents. Load the documents, push the blue button, and the s1500M takes care of the rest. If the scanner happens to jam, 99% of the time the cause is a staple that was not removed (it cannot do everything for you).
The ScanSnap program interacts well with OSX. There was an initial compatibility issue with SnowLeopard, which has is no longer an issue due to a recent update. Since the update, the S1500M works like a dream with OSX, and there have been no problems to report.
Quite simply, the S1500M is a great device that will help any Mac user go paperless in a snap.

I also use the S1500M and agree with most of your comments. The only annoying this is that it grabs 2 or more sheets of paper on a fairly regular basis. Any suggestions?
Hmmm…it seems to help if you “fluff up” the sheets so they loosen up a bit.
Todd, it’s possible that you may need to either clean your ScanSnap or change your consumables. Here are a couple links below that give you some suggestions that might help you fix the problem:
I am currently trying to decide between a ScanSnap or a NeatDesk setup for my Mac. Have you had the opportunity to compare the two devices? Also, how is the quality of a scanned photo? I must get rid of the old shoe boxes. Thanks for any advise you can offer.

I have not had the chance to compare the two scanners. The ScanSnap is obviously the better value, since it includes Acrobat. You might like the NeatDesk’s ability to scan receipts directly to QuickBooks, although I have my doubts about how cleanly that works.
Ty, you might want to look at the Amazon reviews for the NeatReceipts system. I was about to pick that one up but many Mac users have reported that it works pretty miserably — with both the bundled portable and the desk-size scanners.
The ScanSnap may be able to scan into quickbooks. Not sure if you’ve looked at using profiles with the ScanSnap manager, but I use this technique to scan documents into Evernote and it works flawlessly. To get an idea of what I’m talking about, take a look at this article: http://paperlessmac.com/2010/01/how-to-get-the-fujisu-scansnap-300m-and-evernote-working-together/ It might be worth seeing if this works with quickbooks too. I don’t have the software so I can’t check myself. Let me know if it works though.
I just ordered one from NewEgg based in large part on the love for the device posted here. I hope it’s as awesome as described and I can kick my miserable old HP to the curb.

I dumped a couple hundred pages of pleadings and motions into an Eagle Filer database in less than an hour.
Does anyone know whether the Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Scanner can be purchased without the Acrobat 8.x bundle so as to reduce the hardware price? I already have a copy of Adobe Acrobat 9.x

I am trying to fine a program for organizing all of my tax returns, personal docs, business docs etc on my Mac. What software can you suggest? I have looked a bit at Evernote, Springpad and devonthink. I saw Rack 2-Filer and really liked the bookcase and binder presentation for retrieving the information. Unfortunately this is for PC only.
