Steve MarcheseI am excited to join Lawyerist as a new blogger with the goal of providing career and professional development insight to these pages. I’ve been a lawyer for over 15 years in a number of different capacities: first as a law clerk to judges in two different federal and state courts; a practicing litigator in New York, Michigan and Minnesota; and, most recently, a five year stint as one of the directors of career development at the University of Minnesota Law School.

Last fall, I founded Authentic Strategies, LLC, a consulting company focused on providing career and professional development support to law firms and other legal employers, as well as lawyers in transition.

Over the years, I’ve talked to literally hundreds of lawyers and law students about their careers, job searches and developments in the profession.  I hope to bring the wisdom I’ve gained from them and my own journey to these posts. I’ve learned that building a career is part planning, part common sense and part persistence. What issues are you grappling with in your own practice? I look forward to the conversation.

Its good to have you on board! We need someone looking out and talking about this! Its very hard to find any legal work (especially as a 2L) in this economy right now!

No promises that Steve will find you a job, but I’m confident that he — and other posts on Lawyerist — will give you some new ideas to help with your job search.

You can always follow Sam’s lead and start your own practice:
