Fujitsu ScanSnap S1300 Scanner Giveaway

by Lawyerist on April 18, 2011 in Legal Technology

ScanSnap-S1300

We have been writing for years about how much we love Fujitsu’s ScanSnap scanners, which are an essential tool for any paperless office.

A year ago, we had a chance to test out the portable ScanSnap S1300 scanner, which is smaller than the traditional ScanSnap S1500, and thus allows you to make your paperless law office portable.

That’s why we are excited to announce that, in partnership with ScanSnap, we will be giving away two ScanSnap S1300 portable scanners to two lucky Lawyerist readers at the end of the month.

ScanSnap S1300 Review

Our review of the s1300 scanner last year noted that

You can easily fit the scanner and its wires into your computer bag. You will not have room for much else, but it does fit. There are smaller document scanners—even smaller duplexing document scanners—but most anything smaller requires you to hand-feed every document. The automatic document feeder is pretty essential to a document scanner…The quality of the documents I scanned with the S1300 was the same as documents I scanned with the larger S1500, as far as I could tell. For all I know, the scanning elements could be the exact same.

Here you can see the S1300 in action:

I’m going solo and won’t have the room for tons of files. Paperless (and cloud!) are the future and will save time & money!

I think it’s pretty obvious that a scansnap s1300 would be the backbone of a portable paperless office. Heck, I’m sure it would do in a pinch for a traditional, non-portable office.

I often go to meet clients where they are and my practice requires lots of documentation. This would be an ideal addition that would save me and my clients lots of time and money.

I use the desktop Fujitsu now and really like it. However, I am sometime in places I need to scan and keep dox. So it would be a great use to me to have the portable one too.
By the way, I have lawyerist sent to my google reader and read it daily. Thanks.

A portable scanner is invaluable for when lawyers have to travel to meet clients in their homes. I would use it to scan original client files at their home.

Michelle April 18, 2011 at 11:03 am

The ScanSnap s1300 would eliminate the need to take the client docs back to scan or copy and then mail them back to the clients! To be portable and practical, it would make the most sense!

Rob Shainess April 18, 2011 at 11:16 am

The ScanSnap s1300 would same me and my clients money on copying expenses, and medical records in particular.

Mark April 18, 2011 at 11:22 am

@ScanSnapIt has protected their account, requiring approval before you can follow them. Are you sure you have the right account?

Anyway, I would use the s1300 to scan and file incoming mail and documents, allowing me to discard the paper and maintain only electronic files.

Hi Mark – Jordyn Russell, Marketing Communications Manager here with Fujitsu. The correct Twitter handle is actually @ScanSnap. You can follow us here: http://twitter.com/scansnap. Thanks for participating and good luck!

There have been numerous times when I have been at court and wished I could scan a document. This would be a great tool to have.

Adam April 18, 2011 at 11:28 am

This would be perfect for meeting clients in neighboring counties who aren’t able to come to the office, especially for wills.

Leo April 18, 2011 at 11:30 am

I would use it when I travel to scan documents at depositions instead of having to wait for paper copies to be made for me. I also would use it to scan documents to transfer to my e-reader, thereby reducing the amount of paper that I carry around. Plus, using it would make other lawyers insanely jealous of my technological capabilities!

Steve Silberman April 18, 2011 at 11:36 am

The ScanSnap s1300 would reduce costs and simplify scanning documents when out of office, rather than obtain photocopies to return to the office to be scanned.

Richard D. Allen April 18, 2011 at 11:36 am

I would use it on days when I’m out of town and need to set up a “temporary command post” at a coffee shop or hotel business center.

Joan April 18, 2011 at 11:39 am

I am a busy Mom and solo practitioner who often works from home. A more portable scansnap would really help me keep my files and documents organized, even when I work from home or elsewhere.

Kelly Rogosheske April 18, 2011 at 11:42 am

We’ve been paperless from the start, and scan-from-anywhere capability would be a great enhancement.

Shawn April 18, 2011 at 11:43 am

This would be a great too to help make my office more portable. Being confined to a single location is not how i intent to practice.

Jonathan Raney April 18, 2011 at 11:52 am

The 1300 would be much better than the 1500 for the portion of my practice which takes place on my sailboat where space is at a premium. It is small enough to be vacumn sealed prior to offshore passages, which tend to be wet, and then unpacked when I’m in port and need to use it.

Gregory D April 18, 2011 at 12:03 pm

I started reading Lawyerist right before I opened my solo practice. Based on Lawyerist recommendation, I decided to purchase an S1500 and go paperless. It was the best decision I have ever made. However, I have a mobile practice and often meet clients out of my office. An S1300 would increase my productivity and help take my practice to the next level.

The Fujitsu ScanSnap s1300 offers the user many benefits. It is portable, easy to set up and use making it a great choice for offsite meetings. It also has a small footprint which means It won’t occupy much space on my desk when I am using it at the office.

Peter H. Baker April 18, 2011 at 12:27 pm

After 31 years of general practice, being my own 1st stage IT person, and accumulating thousands of paper files taking up literally hundreds of square feet, we are going paperless as fast as our little feet will carry us. A reliable and speedy scanner is the first step in accomplishing this task. A portable version will make deposition documentation, home visits to clients and visits to other offices for closings, conferences and the like a breeze. I have cursed technology as ofen as I have praised it but scanning is clearly a necessity and a benefit to our practice, not to mention a sound environmental process.
