Hi David and Sarah:

We've spoken to a law firm that gained immediate results from the daily standups. Understanding what the obstacles are, and keeping people accountable help small organizations of any type, law firms included.

In general, the more a law firm sees itself as a business and engages with measuring its performance, the more iterations will help. It keeps the team on point, accountable, and measurable.

Per why waterfall and lean would or would not work in a law firm, good questions! I personally don't think waterfall is a good way of doing things in general, but that's based on personal experience. In any case, excellent questions and I look forward to exploring them in more depth in future posts.

I've utilized the Agile project management strategy before in an agency setting and it worked extremely well. I think the daily scrum meetings and weekly sprint meetings worked great and were extremely helpful in maximizing organization.

But like Dan, I don't really see how it can be effectively applied for a law firm either. With its collaborative writing, file uploads, to-dos and more, I think Basecamp is a great alternative.

I'm not seeing any tips on the applicability of Scrum/Agile to a law practice. It works great in software development - nailing down bugs, meeting milestones, producing iterative builds, etc. But I'd like to see more on how it applies to law practice, which is significantly less iterative than software development.

Why is it superior to the Waterfall method for a law firm? Why is it superior to lean development for a small firm?
